A quiet day by a Florida pond can change quickly when an alligator appears. That happened in St. Augustine when Florida woman Robyn Mangold filmed two turtles swimming toward a tiny baby alligator. What began as a simple wildlife video soon became an unusual scene as the turtles moved close to the young reptile. The video was shared on TikTok and quickly drew hundreds of thousands of views. While the moment looked playful, the animals were behaving in the wild, and there is no proof that the turtles were actually trying to “bully” the alligator.

Robyn Mangold recorded the unusual encounter at a pond in St. Augustine, Florida. She captured two turtles swimming toward a very small alligator that was floating in the water.
The video showed the turtles moving close to the young alligator until they were almost nose to nose. The little gator did not appear to panic or swim away, making the scene even more unusual to watch.
The turtles moved toward the baby gator
The turtles appeared to surround or approach the young alligator as they swam through the pond. Their movements led people online to describe the scene as the turtles “bullying” the gator.
That description is more of a fun way to explain what viewers saw than a scientific finding. The video does not prove that the turtles had a plan to attack, scare or chase the alligator. They may simply have been moving through the same part of the pond.
The baby alligator stayed calm
Despite the turtles getting close, the young alligator continued floating in the water. It did not show a clear attempt to escape during the part of the encounter shown in the video.
The calm reaction made the moment seem almost funny to viewers. Still, wild animals do not behave for an audience, and a short video cannot tell us exactly what each animal was thinking or why it moved in a certain way.
The video spread online
Mangold posted the video to TikTok, where it quickly attracted attention. By May 21, 2025, reports said the video had received more than 900,000 views.
Some viewers jokingly compared the turtles to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The lighthearted reaction helped the unusual wildlife moment travel far beyond the Florida pond where it was filmed.
Florida is home to many alligators
Seeing an alligator in a Florida pond is not unusual. American alligators live across the state and can be found in lakes, ponds, rivers, marshes and other bodies of fresh water.
Small alligators may look harmless, but they are still wild animals. People should never approach, touch or feed one, even when it appears calm or very small.
The encounter offers a simple lesson
The video is a good reminder that interesting wildlife moments can happen without people getting involved. Watching from a safe distance lets animals continue their normal behavior without added stress.
It is also important not to read too much into short wildlife clips. The turtles and baby alligator were sharing the same pond, but the available evidence does not show that the turtles were deliberately trying to bully the young reptile.
