    A hiking trip in Central Florida turned tragic when 31-year-old Brittany Clark was fatally attacked by an alligator while swimming in the Econlockhatchee River at Little Big Econ State Forest.     On June 28, 2026, Clark, Allison, and a friend entered the Econlockhatchee River after hiking through Little Big Econ State Forest in Seminole County, Florida. Investigators said the group was swimming in shoulder-deep water when a large alligator suddenly attacked Clark without any apparent provocation.

    Wildlife officials said there was no indication the group had been feeding, harassing, or attempting to interact with the animal before the attack.

    According to the preliminary medical examiner’s report, the alligator seized Clark and performed a “death roll,” a defensive feeding behavior in which the animal spins rapidly while holding its prey. Allison immediately grabbed the alligator in an effort to force it to release her.

    The report says Clark was briefly freed before the alligator grabbed her again. Allison ultimately managed to pull her to shore and called 911 while emergency responders rushed to the scene.
